Be The "Very Model of a Modern Major-General"

Musical theater, military costumes and cocktails . . . how appropriate!

The folks at the Lincoln Theater (100 California Drive on the grounds of the Veterans Home of California in Yountville) have reached out to the troops with the following deal:

  • Troops from the Napa Guerilla Gay Bar discounted tickets tickets to the Lamplighters Music Theatre's production of The Pirates of Penzance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 7.  Just buy your tickets at https://www.choicesecure01.net/mainapp/EventSchedule.aspx?ClientID=lincolntheater&group=pirate&promo=2 and select the "Discount" ticket option after you've chosen your seats.  You'll receive a $10 discount per ticket!
  • There will be a costume contest - just come appropriately dressed as a pirate or wench for a chance to win two tickets to see Charo (Cuchi, Cuchi!)
  • There will be a no-host bar and they'll be reserving a special area on the mezzanine for us!
Following the performance, let's all head to Panchas!

Pirates of Penzance is Gilbert and Sullivan at its best. One of the most popular operas ever written, this swashbuckling classic tells the tale of the pirate apprentice Frederic, who has a few surprises in store as he turns 21!  It features tender-hearted pirates, bumbling policemen, an eccentric Major General and beautiful young maidens.

Opening Day at the Napa Town & Country Fair

Ask 100 people what they like about the Napa Town and Country Fair and you'll get 100 different answers.  If you ask a couple of your Mission Commander's friends (and you know who you are!) you'll most likely hear the following:  "delicious, pipping hot corn on the cob, slathered with butter and served by hunky firefighters".  I guess that's pretty much how we roll!

Join the troops from the Napa Guerilla Gay Bar as we invade the Napa Town & Country Fair (on the grounds of the Napa Valley Expo at 575 Third Street in Napa) on Wednesday, August 11 for OPENING DAY!

We'll eat (of course), we'll drink (naturally), we'll visit the exhibits, we'll all hold our noses as we look at the livestock, we'll ride the rides in the carnival area (or watch as others scream and cry like little kids).

Then, at 8 p.m. we'll meet up at the brand new amphitheatre for a concert by jazz pianist David Benoit (pronounced, believe it or not, BEN-wah).  Those who saw him perform with Dave Koz at the Robert Mondavi Summer Concert Series know how good this guy is!  What could be better?  A warm August evening, sitting with friends outdoors and listening to great jazz!  And don't forget - the concert is free with your admission to the fair.

Blow off work and spend the entire day or just show up when you can.  Be sure to wear your Napa Valley Pride dog tags or other camouflage and/or rainbow paraphernalia so we can spot you.

Advance tickets are available for just $8 (a 20% savings) by clicking on the "Buy Tickets" link at http://www.napavalleyexpo.com/fair.html

Now, as Peppermint Patty says in this video - "C'mon everybody . . . let's party!"

The Show Must Go On!

We're incredibly fortunate here in the Napa Valley.  We've got the Lincoln Theater in Yountville as well as the Uptown Theatre and Napa Valley Opera House in Napa.  And let's not forget the awesome Cameo Cinema in St. Helena.  In addition, with all the fairs and festivals that happen here we're blessed with some absolutely amazing entertainment options.

Well, let's take advantage of situation!  We're proud to announce the Napa Guerilla Gay Bar Arts & Entertainment program!

Here's the plan . . . we'll:
  • Select a local concert, performance or show.
  • Attempt to get a block of discounted tickets to the event and pass the savings on to you.  We'll also do what we can to avoid ticketing fees.
  • Arrange a food and/or beverage "mission" before and/or after the event open to everyone, even those not attending the show.
Here are two events we're considering:

MARGARET CHO
Sunday, September 26 - 8 pm
Uptown Theatre, Napa

This fall, San Francisco native Margaret Cho will be hitting the road with a brand new national stand-up tour, "Cho Dependent".  Her new tour will feature new stand-up and a few live performances of songs on her forthcoming comedy music album of the same name.

Saturday, October 16 - 8 pm
Lincoln Theatre, Yountville

No Day But Today!  This Tony & Pulitzer Prize-winning musical chronicles the lives of eight friends living the Bohemian life, struggling to express themselves through their art and "measuring their lives in love".  Against the gritty backdrop of New York's East Village, these friends strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic.

Get Wet for Equality!

Everyone knows how much the troops from the Napa Guerilla Gay Bar love Bardessono!  We've had two outstanding events at the pool - this year's "Ibiza Chill-Out in the Napa Valley" during Napa Valley Pride 2010 and last year's Napa Valley Pride Kick-off.  We knew it was just a matter of time before other organizations would discover everything that Bardessono has to offer!.

Well, get ready to Get Wet for Equality as Equality California and Instinct Magazine present a private pool party to support the inaugural "Swim for Equality".

The event will feature hors d'oeuvres hosted by Bardessono, and an open bar from 5 to 7 p.m. hosted by Blue Angel Vodka.  There will also be a fashion show and giveaways.

Cost is $30 in advance, $40 at the door.  Visit www.eqca.org/getwet to register.

Also, party guests will receive 15% off published guestroom rates at Bardessono.  Contact 707-204-6024 for lodging reservations.

For more information about the pool party, contact Jack at jack@eqca.org

This event raises funds and awareness about Swim for Equality on September 25.  Join Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis for a 1.7-mile swim along the coast of Malibu to raise critical awareness and funds for LGBT rights in California. Sign up to swim, help a swimmer raise their $2,000 goal, or make a donation by visiting www.eqca.org/swim.

Together, we will achieve equality for LGBT Californians, one stroke at a time.

Contact Michael Holtz with any questions about the Swim for Equality at michaelh@eqca.org or (323) 490-2054.
